Description
First edition of this monumental essay on Benvenuto Cellini. The author, Eugène Plon, heir to the famous family publishing house in 1859, was an art history scholar specializing in sculpture: his essay on Thorvaldsen dates back to 1867, followed by a monograph on the Danish sculptor Bissen. In 1883 he published his work on Cellini, illustrated by 82 plates ft, with a very large space dedicated to research on the attributions of the individual works and followed by an Appendix of historical documents. Our volume also includes the Nouvel Appendix aux recherches sur son oeuvre et sur les pièces qui lui sont attribuées, published in 1884. Our copy is further enhanced by an illustrious provenance: in fact, it comes from the library of the Chateau d'Ermenonville
