Description
The volume, in addition to The French in Lombardy (Stamperia di Modesto Fenzo), contains four other works: The Adventures of the Cisalpine Republic, heroic-comic poem with notes in each song (Stamperia di Modasto Fenzo). On the fate of the new Cisalpine Republic famous prophecy of Abacucco (From the prints of the citizen Giovanni Zatta). Paraphrase of the psalm Quare fremuerunt Gentes made by Gio. Battista Gentilini in the church of Santa Fosca in current Lent (Pietro Zerletti, Venice). Testament of the former Cisalpine Republic; update the official report of her illness and death, sent to the French directory by the doctor of the deceased (s.e.). Surely whoever composed this rare volume was a bitter opponent of the Cisalpine Republic: all the works were published in 1799 and in particular in the first, direct reference is made to the "always memorable day of April 28, 1799": it is the day of the decisive battle of Verderio that precedes by one day the entry into Milan of the Austro-Russian troops led by feldmarescaillo Suvorov, which closes the first period of French domination in Northern Italy. The first work, of a historical nature signed in the Preface by the author as G.F., is followed by three satirical works and the text of a Lent that reads the restoration of the government of Francis II in Providential terms.
