Mountain Landscape with Lake 1863

Oil painting on canvas. Signed and dated lower left. The Prussian noble painter Stanislas Eduard von Kalckreuth distinguished himself for the production of mountain landscapes, in particular views including the small bodies of water on the mountain peaks. This work was previously sold at public auction in Munich. Restored and relined, it is presented in a period frame.

Sunny Landscape

Fresco on canvas. Signed lower right. Further signature and technique on the back. Placed in the informal Emilian naturalism, Bruno Saetti's painting is distinguished by a significant love for the pictorial material, rich and consistent, pasty and fermenting, but also open to the modulations of luminous vibration. His series of "frescoes" with the Sun as the dominant subject is rich, as in this work, which presents a large bright sun shining on a brick red background, above an indefinite landscape, where only a basilica can be recognized at the top right. If Saetti's Emilian origin is evident in the warm tones of the red bricks and in the very peculiar taste of the material (the favorite fresco), on the other hand the Venetian contamination is recognizable (Saetti lived for a long time in Venice) in his lingering on the color, on its luminous vibrations, on the feeling of astonished amazement of space. Mountain Landscape, 1917

Oil on cardboard. Signed and dated lower right. Originally from the province of Cuneo, Giovanni Rava dedicated himself mainly to landscapes, rendered in realistic forms and with an impressionist touch, in the shades of luministic effects. The work is presented in a mid-20th century frame.

Wooden Landscape

Oil on cardboard. signed lower right. Cavaleri was exclusively a landscape painter and in particular a marine painter, considered an exponent of the latest Lombard naturalism. His painting, linked to reproduction from life, stands out for its lively and brilliant colour, with shades spread in large patches, with a technique that brings him closer to the Lombard impressionists of the late 19th century. In the most mature phase of his activity, the artist he approached Liberty (his posters are very well known) and Symbolism, influenced by his poet friend Gian Pietro Lucini. The work is presented in a contemporary frame.

Oil on walnut board. Flemish school of the 16th century. The painting presents a landscape characterized by a tall leafy plant in the centre, which vertically divides the scene into two parts, rising from the brown and dark earth in the foreground, towards the horizon of wooded blue hills, which then fade into a chromatic continuum in the sky above, interrupted by the thick foliage of the tree. The scene in the foreground is animated by various figurines of walking characters, scattered across the countryside. The chromatic choices are peculiar, the browns and blues, which together with the type of landscape and the figures refer to Flemish painting; moreover, the use of a walnut panel testifies to a Flemish artist working in Italy, where this pictorial support, unusual in Northern Europe, was used. Mountain Cabins

Mario Moretti Foggia lived and worked until his death in Macugnaga, the mountain town in the Ossola Valley that he often depicted in his works, often offering glimpses of mountain huts in the valleys as in this work. Trained at the school of Tallone, Moretti Foggia was predominantly a landscape painter, who proposed realistic views characterized by a very bright and material chromatic palette. The work is presented in a period frame.

Landscape with River Glimpse 1906

The Roman-born artist Cesare Maggi established himself as a pointillist landscape painter, portraying alpine landscapes in the Engadine and Aosta Valley, often enlivened by the inclusion of figures and animals. Becoming a friend of the painter Giacomo Grosso in Turin in 1901, he then successfully oriented himself towards the portrait genre, setting aside the pointillist technique. While still favoring high mountain views, he broadened his subjects by also engaging in seascapes and still lifes. In this work, still from the first period, Maggi portrays a glimpse of the countryside crossed by a calm river, bordered by rows of bare trees and small grassy hills, behind which the farmhouses overlook: already no longer linked to the techniques divisionist, the work is rather characterized by dense and opaque mixtures of color, in which the earth, the water and the farmhouses are superimposed in a continuum broken only by the band of sky above. The path of San Rocco (Camogli)

An extremely original landscape painter who experimented with oil painting but also with watercolors and engraving, Raul Viviani came very close to pointillist painting, however developing his own personal technique, characterized by very thin filaments of color in the shape of thin commas, which define the structures of his landscapes. With his transfer to Liguria, which made the landscape of that region the protagonist of his works, his technique changed, moving away from the original divisionism to open up to a broad and summary brushstroke, which finally resulted in the last period in a production of nature death with violent and contrasting colors. This landscape can also be placed in the Ligurian period, which offers a glimpse of a well-known Ligurian locality, still rendered in the characteristic style of Viviani, made of brushstrokes in thin filaments, superimposed on spots of lively color, in the chromatic ranges of the colors of nature. Winter landscape

The large landscape is completely dominated by the play of colour: divided into two hemifields given by the sky and the earth (a mountainous land where sporadic fir trees sprout), it sees the pinkish blue of the sky prevail above, under the greenish blue of the snow on the ground , two shades of the same color range that then meet in the skyline of the mountains. Cinotti was a landscape painter who was an exponent of Italian Divisionism, whose painting is characterized by a material and pasty application with touches of spatulated color. In coeval frame.

Road to Cervasca 1981

Giovanni Balansino, Piedmontese by origin but Lombard by adoption, chose to depict his love for both lands with his painting made of broad and nervous brushstrokes, dedicating a large part of his production to them. In the proposed painting, Giovanni Balansino presents a glimpse of a country road near a village that he identifies in Cervasca, a small mountain town in the Cuneo area, animated by two barely sketched figurines that blend into the natural environment, due to the overlapping of the applied colors with rapid brush strokes and undefined contours. These are three small paintings proposing landscape glimpses, made in the naturalistic style typical of Lorenzo Gignous: the two lateral ones, measuring 24 x 30 cm, propose the most recurring subject in the Lombard artist's production, i.e. glimpses of Lake Maggiore, animated by fishing boats; in the center a smaller landscape (18 x 25 cm) with a group of trees in the countryside. The three small paintings are presented in a single coeval frame.
