Interior scene

Oil painting on canvas. Not signed, but on the back there is a dedication "Alla signora Clelia Mazzioli, con stima Gaetano Bellei 23 gennaio 1909". The big scene, set in a popular kitchen, sees a woman reading cards to two girls, who ask for explanations by pointing to the figures that appear and seem to compare them with a text leaning on the chair. The work recalls the painting of Gaetano Bellei, due to the strong realism with which the painter painted above all scenes of daily peasant life; he is considered a master of the depiction of human affections and of human reactions and sensations. The painting has slight drops of color. It is proposed in a stylish frame.

Glimpse of Mandello Lario 1909

Oil on canvas. Signature and location (Mandello) lower left. On the back additional signature, date and title in full. Riccardo Pellegrini, a Milanese painter, was a pupil of Domenico Morelli and was educated in the climate of romanticism. He was a landscape painter and genre painter, but he also created valuable still lifes, with bright colors and a precise and realistic drawing. His landscape production drew on the various places he visited and lived, in Italy and abroad, especially in Spain and France. In this landscape, Pellegrini offers a glimpse of the mountain that overlooks the town on the shores of Lake Como: a barren and bare mountain, albeit inhabited, with the hut on the top and a female figurine that fills the buckets at the stream of flowing water. between the rocks; the colors are those of the winter mists, divided almost transversely between the gray-blue of the upper part, with clouds laden with rain that dominate the peaks on the other side of the lake (which can be sensed, without being seen), and the green-brown of the land that occupies the lower half, with the branches of the bare trees stretched out to connect the two halves. The quiet of the mountains, the title of the work, clearly shines through and pervades the mind of the observer. The painting is presented in a contemporary frame.

Oil on linoleum, with applications in polystyrene covered with foil. Signed on the back. Accompanied by authentication from the Aldo Mondino Archive. The eclectic Turin artist Aldo Mondino has articulated his artistic research through continuous metamorphoses that have made his production polymorphic: an incessant attempt to find a personal response to the transformations that were taking place in the Seventies, trying to make the history of art coexist with images of mass consumption, personal fantasies, religion, classicism, mysticism, travels to the East, friends and kitsch. His obstinate need to experiment with materials – such as coffee, sweets, sugar, chocolate castings from his beloved Piedmont, marshmallows imported from America, bronze, flowers, strictly blue Bic pens, ceramics and Heraclite carpets – demonstrates his ability to make art, craftsmanship, common life, nature and religion dialogue. All seasoned with the use of irony, to unmask conventions with grace. In the 1980s Aldo Mondino undertook a journey between Morocco and Palestine that left a real mark on him, so much so that it generated the series of works of the Dervishes, dancing subjects painted on linoleum, who practice the ritual dance characteristic of the Turkish tradition by performing fluid and circular movements. Sestante 14 1989

Color screenprint on paper. Signed in pencil lower right, numbered n. IV/XV bottom left. It is accompanied by photo authentication from the "Il borghetto" art house in Milan. The work was part of the "Sestante" series, consisting of 16 different serigraphs. In 1982 Alberto Burri created Sestante, a large cycle of seventeen cellotexes and an iron sculpture, which was exhibited from May to September of the following year in the space of the former Giudecca shipyards in Venice. The evocation of the old nautical instrument, which was used by travelers to establish the position of a given point with respect to the horizon, is a tribute to the maritime destiny of Venice. The paintings are Burri's umpteenth challenge: in their combinations the shapes and colors of the "sextant" create an inexhaustible cycle where there is not the slightest repetition. Within the same painting, or in the juxtaposition of one to the other, the kaleidoscope of shapes allows square and curvilinear structures to coexist, together with large chromatic backgrounds and dense visual patterns. In 1989 the artist proposed the cycle again as a graphic work, creating the "Sestante" series. The art historian Bruno Corà said that "in Burri's case, speaking of graphics does not mean speaking of a lesser production compared to paintings, but only of a different and parallel artistic modality, in conception and execution, in short such as to be able to be included with absolute importance in the production of the great painter, alongside all his other revolutionary innovative pronouncements". We created Atypical Systems 1963/74

Serigraphs and photos. The work consists of three silk-screened cartoons (in cardboard box) with the text in English (original title "We have created atypical systems") and six photos portraying the artist, individually framed. On the back of the three serigraphs in English, numbered in sequence, there are the edition number 13/15, the date 1974 and the artist's signature; they also accompany three unsigned serigraphs with the text in Italian. Cioni Carpi, Milanese artist, engaged in conceptual and minimalist art, produced works in which imagination, sensitivity, expressive flair were fundamental. His creativity was also expressed in photography, installations, video, drawing, writing, the artist's book, as well as painting. The dimensions indicated are those of the single frame.

Evening on the Grand Canal 1959

Watercolor on paper. Signed and located lower right. On the back is a further signature and the title. Originally from the province of Mantua, Giulio Falzoni trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he immediately distinguished himself for his use of watercolor techniques, a technique in which he later specialized in London. His production was strongly linked to his origins, with numerous rustic and bucolic views of the Mantuan countryside, but he was also a painter of old Milan, and of other cities he lived in, of which he loved to portray corners and views. Here is a night view of the Grand Canal in Venice, played on shades of gray, interrupted by the play of clear light, the lunar reflection on the water and the lights of the buildings overlooking the canal. Framed.

The Country Road 1905

Oil on canvas. signed and dated lower right. The Hungarian painter Antal Berkes painted landscapes in the early years of his career, but later devoted himself to glimpses and views of cities, Budapest, Paris, Vienna. This painting still belongs to the first production, proposing the view of a country road, which passes through a forest where some farmhouses are located; on the dirt road there is a cart pulled by horses. The painting is presented in a period frame.

Tarasp Castle 1960

Oil on cardboard. Signed and dated lower right. The Roman artist Cesare Maggi established himself as a landscape painter of the divisionist style, portraying Alpine landscapes of the Engadine and Aosta Valley, often enlivened by the inclusion of figures and animals. Having become friends with the painter Giacomo Grosso in Turin in 1901, he then successfully turned to the portrait genre, setting aside the divisionist technique. Although he still preferred high mountain views, he expanded his subjects by also working on marine and still life paintings. Shown here is the snow-covered glimpse of Tarasp Castle, an 11th-century fortress in Lower Engadine, Switzerland. This is a late work by the artist, who remained attached to his favorite subject, the Alpine landscape, until the end, despite having now abandoned the divisionist technique of his early period. Landscape with Hills, 1958

Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower right. The large landscape offers a view of green and flowery hills, which opens the view onto the plain below, inhabited by several groups of houses; on the steep hill a row of cypress trees that climb diagonally, marks the climb to a house that is not visible, but identified by the gate at the base. Perhaps a landscape from Brianza (but it could also be a Tuscan glimpse!), it belongs to the vast traditionalist landscape production of the Lombard painter Arnaldo Annoni. It is presented in a contemporary frame.
