Description

Fascinating collection of splendid and clear ex-libris and woodcuts for writing papers, business cards, monograms on which the names of some famous protagonists of the first half of the century appear. Francesco Gamba is one of the protagonists of the rebirth of woodcut art in Italy, linked to the movement that was born in the years immediately preceding the First World War around the magazine and publishing house L'Eroica. Curious discrepancy between the title on the cover and the title on the title page (100 Ex-libris by Francesco Gamba): there are 124 plates (Unfortunately one card has been removed and therefore one of the 125 ex-libris declared in the title is missing). To the Colophon: Of these "One Hundred Ex-libris", twenty-five copies were printed on "Nettunia extra" paper from Fabriano, numbered from I to XXV, bound in half cloth and gold with the publisher's signature; one hundred and seventy-five on "Nettunia" paper also from Fabriano, numbered from 001 to 175. Copy no. 30.
